Frequently asked questions

What is VolumeKeeper?

VolumeKeeper is a native macOS menu bar app, desktop widget, and CLI tool (`vk`) for monitoring external hard drives, SSDs, and network mounts.

How does the desktop widget work?

VolumeKeeper includes a WidgetKit extension (Small and Medium sizes) that displays your managed volumes, capacity, and live mount status directly on your Mac desktop or in Notification Center.

What can the optional CLI tool (vk) do?

The optional `volumekeeper` CLI (aliased as `vk`) lets terminal users list managed volumes, output JSON status, add/remove drives, adjust low-space alert thresholds, and safely batch-eject all drives (`vk eject --all`).

Does VolumeKeeper track me or send data online?

No. VolumeKeeper has no tracking, no analytics, and no cloud connections. All volume configurations are stored 100% locally on your Mac via App Group storage.
